In this course I would like to give an introduction to the Kodaira- Spencer theory of deformations of complex manifolds. The goal is to acquire the necessary tools to understand the proof of the main theorem, i.e., the stability of the K¨ahler condition under small deformations of the complex structure on a compact complex manifold. The final part of this course intends to approach the theory of deformations from the point of view of curves of complex structures and present some recent applications concerning the stability of special Hermitian structures in the non-K¨ahler realm.
